The story of the story
I don't like liars.
I'm not saying that I never lie, that would be, well, a lie. But I don't tell the sorts of lies that get people killed, or destroy their lives, or ruin entire nations, or keep people trapped in poverty so I can be obscenely wealthy.
I lie about whether I've finished the latest draft or finished doing the dishes.
The Hero Complex is a story about lies and liars and how everything is bullshit.
It's a work in progress, and there's a long way to go. And I've thought a lot about how much story there is left to write, and I did some calculations and worked out that I could possibly finish it before I die, provided medical science extends life by 20 years or so.
So I thought a bit more
